ክቡራን እና ክቡራት

እንኳን ለዚህ ታላቅ የኮርያ ዘማች አርበኞች የምስጋና ልዩ ስነ ስርዓት አደረሰን። አገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ከጥንት ጀምሮ በአርበኞች ልጆቿ ስሟ ሲጠራ ኖራለች። ስለ ጀግኖች አባቶቻችን እና እናቶቻችን ተጋድሎ
ተነግሮ አያልቅም። በየዘመኑ ለእናት ሀገራቸው ነፃነት እና ለህዝባቸው ክብር የከፈሉት መስዋእትነት
ሲከበር ቢኖርም ይህ የኮርያ ዘመቻ ከሌሎቹ ዘመቻዎች ለየት ይላል። አያቴ ግርማዊ ቀዳማዊ አፄ
ኃይለ ሥላሴ ፋሽስት እጣልያ ሐገራችንን በወረረ ግዜ በጄኔቫ ተገኝተው የዓለም መንግሥታት መሃበር
በተዋዋሉት መሰረት አንድ ሐገር ሲጠቃ ሁሉም መንግስት የትብብር መከላክል ወይም Collective
Security Doctrine የነበራቸውን ሀላፊነት እንዲወጡ አሳስበው ነበር። መሃበሩ እና አባላቱ ግን
ይህንን የተዋዋሉበት ሐላፊነት ሊፈጽሙ ፈቃደኞች ባለመሆናቸው ለፋሽስት እጣልያ እና ለናዚ ጀርመን
መንግሥት ብርታት ሰቶ ሁለተኛ የዓለም ጦርነት እንዲነሳ አንዱ ትልቅ ምክንያት ሆኖ ነበር። በዚህም
ምክንያት ከጦርነቱ በሗላ የተባበሩት መንግሥታት መሃበር ሲቋቋም ይህ የ Collective Security
Doctrine እንዲጠናከር ተደርጎ በሕጎቹ ተካተተ። የተባበሩት መንግሥታት የጸጥታ አስከባሪ ኃይሎች
ከዛን ግዜ ጀምረው በብዙ የጦርነት ስፍራዎች በመዝመት የዓለም ሰላም እንዳይናጋ እና ጦርነት እንዳይስፋፋ ታላቅ አስተዋጾ አድርገዋል። ኢትዮጵያ የዚህ ታሪክ መነሻ በመሆኗ የተነሳ የተባበሩት መንግሥት የጸጥታ አስከባሪነት ስራ ከጀመረበት ግዜ ጀምሮ ተሳታፊ በመሆን እስከ አሁን ድረስ ትልቅ አስተዋጾ አድርጋለች።

እንደ አውሮፓ አቆጣጠር በ1951 ዓመተ ምህረት ጀምሮ ለሶስት ዓመት ከኢትዮጵያ ክቡር ዘበኛ
ሰራዊት የተዋጣጣው የቃኘው ባታልዮን ወደ ኮርያ ዘምቶ የተባበሩት መንግሥታት ሰራዊት አካል ሆኖ
ታላቅ ጀብድ ሰርቷል። እስካሁን በኮርያና በተባበሩት ምንግሥታት መሃበር ይህ ጀግንነት ይዘከራል።
በጠቅላላው 121 ኢትዮጵያዊ ጀግኖች ተሰውተው 536 ቆስለዋል። በዘማች ኃይሎች እስካሁን
የሚደነቅ ነገር አለ። እሱም አንድም ኢትዯጵያዊ በዚህ ጦርነት ተማርኮ አልተያዘም። የተሰዉት
አርበኞች አጽማቸው ያረፈው አዲስ አበባ በሚገኘው በታላቁ መንበረ ጸባዖት ቅድስት ሥላሴ ካቴድራል
ሲሆን በደቡብ ኮርያም ትልቅ መታሰብያ ሐውልት ቆሞላቸዋል። የቃኘው ባታልዮን እና አባላቱ
በግርማዊ ጃንሆይ፤ በደቡብ ኮርያ መንግሥት፤ በአሜሪካ መንግሥትና በተባበሩት መንግሥታት ማህበር
የተላዩ ሽልማቶችና ሊሻኖች ተሸላሚ ሆነዋል። አነዚህ ጀግኖች አባቶቻችን የአገራችንን ስም በዓለም
ደረጃ ከፍ ብሎ እንዲነሳ አድርገዋል። የሐገር ክብርና የሕዝብ ኩራት በመሆናቸው ሁላችንም የኮርያ
ዘማቾችን ልናመሰግናቸውና ልናከብራቸው ይገባል።

የኮርያ ዘማች አባቶቻችን የተዋጉት ለዓለም ሠላም፤ ለሰው ልጅ ነፃነት እና ለአገር ክብር በመሆኑ
ለኮርያ እና ለኢትዮጵያ ሕዝቦች ብቻ ሳይሆን ለዓለም በሙሉ ታላቅ ውለታ ውለዋል ። ለሁላችንም
መልካም ምሳሌ እና ኩራት ንቸው። በነፍስ ያሉት የፈጣሪ በረከት ይብዛላቸው። ላረፉትም
እግዚአብሔር እረፍተ ነፍስን ይስጥልን። አገራችንን ኢትዮጵያን እግዚአብሔር ይባርክልን በሰላም
ይጠብቅልን።

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Congratulations to all on reaching this special commemoration of the veterans of the Korean War. Our homeland Ethiopia has been honored by her warrior children since ancient times. Indeed, the histories of their exploits are endless. Although the sacrifices they paid for the independence of their country and the honor of their people have been celebrated, the Korean campaign is unique. His Imperial Majesty my grandfather, Emperor Haile Selassie I had addressed the League of Nations in Geneva to invoke the Doctrine of Collective Security, calling for the member countries to come to the aid of an invaded fellow member, when Fascist Italy invaded our country. However, because the League and its members were not willing to follow through on this treaty obligation, it opened the door to further aggression by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany and became a major factor in the outbreak of the Second World War. As a result, when the United Nations Organization was established after the war, this doctrine of Collective Security was strengthened in the its charter. Since that time, United Nations Peace Keeping Missions have gone into many war zones around the world and prevented the spread of war and protected peace. As Ethiopia was a catalyst for this core principle, she has participated in United Nations Peacekeeping efforts from the very beginning and has made great contributions towards them.

For three years beginning in 1951 (according to the Gregorian calendar), a battalion made up of soldiers from the Ethiopian Imperial Guard and named the “Kagnew Battalion” was deployed to Korea as a part of the UN forces and carried out great acts of bravery. This bravery continues to be commemorated by both South Korea and the United Nations. Altogether, 121 Ethiopians sacrificed their lives and 536 were wounded during the Korean War. There is one remarkable statistic that continues to impress those forces that were deployed in this war, and that is the fact that not a single Ethiopia was ever captured by opposing forces during the conflict. The remains of those killed in the war were interred at the great Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa and a memorial to their sacrifice was erected in South Korea as well. Members of the Kagnew Battalion were decorated by His Imperial Majesty, by the government of South Korea, by the government of the United States and by the United Nations Organization, with various medals and orders. Our brave compatriot fathers have upheld the name of our country on an international stage. As the glory of their country and the pride of their people, all of us should honor and thank the veterans of the Korean War.

The veterans of the Korean War fought for world peace, freedom, and the honor of their country, but beyond that they fought not just for the people of Korea and Ethiopia but for all the world, and are owed a debt of gratitude. They are an example to all of us as well as a source of pride. May the Creator bless those that are still living and may He grant eternal rest to those who have passed. May God bless our country Ethiopia and keep her in peace.
