Condolences on the Death of the King of Tooro

28 August 2026 / 22 ነሐሴ 2016

It is with shock and sadness that we learned yesterday of the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, King of Tooro, at the young age of 34. The King of Tooro captured many of our hearts when he was crowned at the very young age of 3 back in 1995.

The people of Uganda have always shown respect for their tradition and history. The Royal Houses of Uganda’s constituent kingdoms hold stewardship of this tradition and history in their hands from one generation to the next. This living continuity is a shining example of how monarchy is part of the bedrock of African culture. King Oyo was a dutiful custodian of this great tradition, and his untimely departure is a great loss for all his compatriots.

As President of the Crown Council of Ethiopia, I would like to extend my condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and all Ugandans for the loss of the late King. Our hearts are with the people of Tooro as in the coming days, the successor to the late King takes on the responsibilities of his position. May the late Omukama rest in peace, and may God console his family and his people.

Prince Ermias Sahle-Selassie Haile-Selassie
